PROZON Foundation at the LIFE VIIEW 2050 conference

On 25 October, the PROZON Foundation for Climate Protection took part in the conference of the LIFE VIIEW 2050 project organized by the Centre for Climate and Energy Analysis at the headquarters of the Institute of Environmental Protection – National Research Institute in Warsaw. The LIFE VIIEW 2050 project is co-financed by the LIFE programme and the National Fund for Environmental Protection and Water Management entitled “Development of the EU ETS system in the context of the implementation of the climate neutrality objective by 2050 from the perspective of the new EC and the Polish Presidency”.

The event was attended by representatives of the Ministry of Climate and Environment, the European Commission, CAKE employees, as well as guests from the Joint Research Centre, the Polish Chamber of Chemical Industry, and PGE Polska Grupa Energetyczna. Topics related to climate policy goals for 2040 were discussed, and the EU ETS in the context of building energy security for the entire EU was discussed.

In the first panel, on the challenges of climate and energy policy and the development of the EU ETS for the new Commission and the Polish Presidency, experts raised several important issues. These were, m.in, taking over the presidency of the Council of the EU in 2025, climate goals for 2040, the “Fit for 55” package, its implementation and challenges until 20230, and the review of the new EU ETS and ETS3 directives.

The second panel was devoted to the LIFE programme, the LIFE VIIEW 2025 project and its assumptions, and the LIFE ENSPIRE project was inaugurated.

During the discussion on the LIFE programme, attention was drawn to its key importance in the implementation of climate projects. Poland has been actively using it for over 30 years. As the data shows, thanks to the program, more than 115 projects related to adaptation to climate change and mitigation of its effects were implemented. Poland is in 1st place in LIFE strategic projects. In the future, it is planned that the programme will focus on citizens’ health and new environmental initiatives. A greater emphasis on cooperation between the public and private sectors is also assumed.

The last point of the conference was the presentation of the results of the LIFE VIIEW 2050 project analyses and analyses in the field of climate and energy policy.
